About Us

Hope Chapel was founded in 1948 in Oceanside, CA as the Oceanside Foursquare Church. Over the years it has been known as the Oceanside Foursquare Church, Seaside Bible Chapel, and North Coast Community Foursquare Church and for over fifteen years as Hope Chapel. No matter what banner it has been under, it has always been a dedicated lighthouse for the Word of God. We are a part of the ever growing Foursquare family of churches. Angelus Temple in Los Angeles California, the headquarters church, was opened and dedicated by its founder, Aimee Semple McPherson, January 1, 1923. The “ Temple” , as it has been known, held 5,300 people and was filled to capacity three services a day, seven days a week. During the “ great depression” the Foursquare church in Los Angeles fed more than 1.5 million people. While over the years the organization has gone through many changes, it is still fundamentally committed to God’ s Word and to be a lighthouse of evangelism as it has and always will.

We at Hope Chapel feel proud of our great heritage and have committed ourselves to be that same beacon of Christ’ s love to the world. At Hope we believe in practical Christian living through the study and teaching of God’ s Word. It is our heartfelt desire to equip every believer with all that is necessary to become a capable representative for Christ in their community and we encourage them to go out into the world and fulfill the great commission of Christ and reach the lost in this world. We are, by the world’ s standard, a small church but we worship a mighty God and through His power we have always been active in missions internationally as well as locally. We enjoin the mindset of, "Think Globally, Act Locally."

Pastor Ed & Judy Brown

Pastor Ed & Judy Brown have been in ministry since 1970. They have a rich history in the service of the Kingdom of God. Pastor Ed's parents were evangelists, as well as former pastors of many churches, in the Mid-West and California.

Ed & Judy came to Oceanside in 1984 and have ministered together for almost 40 years as youth pastors, camp directors, school administrators and Senior Pastors. They have 5 children, 2 daughter-in-laws, 4 grandchildren and a future son-in-law.

Since 2006, Aaron and Allison have been serving faithfully in many of Hope Chapels Ministries. Aaron has served as the Worship Pastor at Hope Chapel for over 5 years, and is now the Associate Pastor of Hope Chapel. Leading Worship, midweek bible studies, and annual youth events such as the 30 Hour Famine, Aaron's time at Hope since he was just 3 years old has been a blessing and an honor to him. Allison has served for the last 3 years as the Children’ s Leader at Hope Chapels, Jr. Lifeguard programs.

What to Expect at Hope Chapel

Hope Chapel is at this point a small loving church family. While numerical growth will be important to us, the growth that we most desire is that those who enter our doors will develop an insatiable thirst for God and His son Jesus Christ. We don’t desire to remain small in number, and you can be a part of changing that! However, if you are looking for a mega church where you can sneak in and out without many people noticing, and if you are not comfortable being in an intimate environment, we might not be the place for you. But, if you are looking for a family of believers who are making active changes in their lives, to be more and more like Christ, then we just might be the place for you. We encourage anyone interested, to try us for three to six months. At that point we are pretty sure you will feel a great sense of being and belonging.

Causual Attire

Casual comfortable attire is how most people dress (including staff). We do not have a dress code. Men, you may come in a suit if you wish or even a tie. We promise no one will make fun of you. However, we ask you to refrain from coming in a wetsuit, it gets water all over the place.

When You Get Here

You will be greeted! Probably more than once. We will most likely ask you for an e-mail address. You need not provide any information you do not wish to impart. If we ask too many questions it’s not that we are nosy, we just want to get to know you. Just say, Pastor Ed Says “back off”.

Worship

Our music worship is contemporary in nature. We play some of todays newest worship music by artist such as, Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Matt Redman, Aaron Shust, Brandon Heath, Starfield, Hillsong United and so many more. Plus, classics like Amazing Grace & All Creatures of Our God and King. We try to provide a wide variety of music for our congregation and we hope you will find it easy to be engaged in worship to our heavenly Father, through simple arrangments and no show.

Communion

We have open communion at every Sunday service. You, based on your personal relationship with Christ, will be the judge as to your participation. No one will be turned away or judged for their participation or lack of.

Important Stuff

We really want you to expect the presence of God through His Holy Spirit. It is our purpose to welcome the Holy Spirit in every service. We don’t leap over pews or swing from chandeliers. However, we expect God to speak to our hearts and give us direction through His Word, our singing, giving and everything we do during our celebration of His love for us. We are not morose. We like to pray, laugh, have fun and any other appropriate emotion for the time.
